Sledding Game Private Lobbies Guide

Players document a private-session route by hosting and choosing “invite only,” then inviting the intended friends. Check everyone’s store version and account permissions before troubleshooting an invitation. A private online lobby is different from offline play.

Invite-only hosting is a Steam community procedure documented in August and discussed again in October. The September update independently confirms lobby passwords and permission checks, but does not publish a complete host-menu walkthrough.

Host for the intended group

  1. Choose a host

One player starts a hosted game. Have that player choose the documented invite-only setting instead of a publicly joinable session.

  2. Invite the intended players

Send the game invitation to the friends you want in the session. Have them accept/join from the matching platform client; do not assume a different storefront can join because both clients run on PC.

  3. Verify the group in the lobby

Confirm that the intended players arrive. If the host is playing alone, invite-only hosting is the recorded solo-lobby route; it still uses the hosting system.

Check accounts, permission and any password prompt

  • Sign in to the account used by the game. The September patch now gives a failure message when a joining player is not signed in.
  • If a crossplay permission prompt appears, the update says the choice is respected during joins. A permission setting is not proof that Steam and the Xbox ecosystem share every lobby.
  • If joining asks for a password, obtain it from the host. The September patch explicitly fixes submitting a lobby password through the on-screen keyboard.
  • The sources do not establish that invite-only and password protection are the same option, or that every private invitation needs a password.

Official player-count descriptions differ between Steam and Xbox. Do not treat the promotional 50/30-player wording as a tested private-lobby limit.

Who can join or remain

Invite-only is the documented host choice for keeping a session from public joining. The update also confirms host identity verification, account crossplay privileges and kick messages. It does not supply the current exact location of a host’s kick control.

If an invited player fails to enter, use the connection checklist to separate sign-in, permission, timeout and host-connection problems. Repeated invitations do not establish that an incompatible store pair can join.

If the goal is two players sharing one screen, check the split-screen status before buying controllers or extra access.

Before sharing a lobby with another store version, compare the crossplay matrix and its evidence scope. For a trip without internet, use offline preparation; an invite-only lobby still uses online services.
